the gifted children : SONG OF THE WEEK

Note: We're taking the summer and fall off from the 'Song of the Week' feature. Please feel free to listen to all of the previous songs of the week, and check back in December for more lost and forgotten songs!

DATESONG OF THE WEEK

Monday, May 23, 2005 your new location

This is a cast-off from the album everything is all right forever. Recorded on MD8 in 2001.
jeff suszczynski - guitar and voices

Monday, May 9, 2005 acetylene

Recorded in 1996 in a dorm room on 4-track. The band sherman used to play this song live and it was much better with the cello and baritone sax.
jeff suszczynski - instruments and voices

Monday, April 18, 2005 evangelism 2003

Recorded on MD8 in 2003. The voice is some insane, intolerant preacher I recorded from my car radio while driving through the Deep South... The song is from a now-aborted album that was going to feature various wacky radio evangelists... But that's kind of played out with Godspeed, A Northern Chorus, etc.
jeff suszczynski - instruments

Monday, April 11, 2005 nice nice very nice

Recorded back in 1999, back when we were pared down to an acoustic three-piece... Part of a 4-song promo demo that we were going to shop to coffeehouses around the northeast US, but I don't think we actually sent it anywhere. Recorded at Bill's parents' house on Grand Island.
nick hall - drumset
jeff suszczynski - acoustic guitar, voices
bill trautman - upright bass, voice

Monday, April 4, 2005 college radio initiation ritual

This song was written during a radio interview with Adam12, but the original recording was lost. A questionable decision led to a spare re-recording.
jeff suszczynski - guitar, voice

Monday, March 28, 2005 still here

Recorded in 2000 on MD8... Originally slated to be included on Chinese Food Takeover, but pulled because it was too long. Enjoy!
jeff suszczynski - drum program, guitars, voices

Monday, March 21, 2005 white noise bath (jim sahr remix)

This is a handheld cassette demo that Jim Sahr (blue blaze irregular, Quick Irv) took from our old MP3.com site and remixed, adding drum machine, a bunch of keyboards and even fake crowd noise... Love the nice music and happy!
jim sahr - keyboards, drum machine
jeff suszczynski - acoustic guitar, voice, white noise

Monday, March 14 2005 response

Recorded back in 1995 on the old cassette 4-track. We resurrected this song in 2001, re-recording it for inclusion on Chinese Food Takeover, but never quite finished it.
jeff suszczynski - acoustic guitar, piano, voices

Monday, March 7, 2005 sheehan on the mic

We recorded this "song" during the Chinese Food Takeover sessions, in Bill and Justin's apartment... I don't quite know what we were thinking.
justin sheehan - voice
jeff suszczynski - piano
bill trautman - drumset

Monday, February 28 2005 alfred university alma mater

The folks at Alfred University asked us to do a version of their alma mater a few years ago. We recorded it in Tim's basement and mailed it to them... It ended up on a compilation CD that goes out to all students at the beginning of each semester, showcasing the bands that will be playing on campus. We love Alfred...
tim grimaldi - drumset
jeff suszczynski - guitars, keyboards, voices, samples

Monday, February 21 2005 brooklyn remedy the guestlist

Recorded on cassette 4-track in 2001. Originally part of another 4-song acoustic promo that was never sent anywhere... A much different, noise-laden version of this song appears on makeshift letterbox - the vaporbombed love affair.
jeff suszczynski - acoustic guitar, voice
